A New Chapter Takes Flight

How Phoenix Joined Our Eagle Family

Introducing Phoenix

Last August marked a momentous chapter in our enduring partnership with Crystal Palace FC. As part of the celebrations for Selhurst Park’s centenary, we proudly introduced Phoenix, a magnificent young American Bald Eagle who continues the legendary legacy of our beloved Kayla.

Phoenix made her first official appearance at the West Ham United match in August 2024, where she charmed supporters in the Fanzone before making her formal debut to the crowd at half-time. At just four months old at the time, she had been carefully prepared for her prestigious role as Crystal Palace’s official live mascot since hatching.

Crystal Palace FC generously supported her upbringing, training, and ongoing care as part of their commitment to our wildlife foundation. As our Director, Samantha Leonard, shared at the announcement: ‘We have a wonderful history with Crystal Palace. Following the loss of Kayla in 2020, we’ve been working to maintain this special partnership. Phoenix has already shown her enthusiasm for the club, even watching Palace matches during her training!’

Phoenix’s name beautifully echoes both Crystal Palace’s history and the club’s transformation in 1973 when they adopted ‘the Eagles’ as their identity. Just as her namesake rises from the ashes, Phoenix represented renewal and hope as she stepped into this exciting new chapter.

Phoenix continues to develop her confidence and skills. While Kayla will always hold a special place in our hearts, we’re excited to watch Phoenix grow and eventually make those magnificent flights around Selhurst Park that became such an iconic part of matchdays
