We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new youth group workshops at Eagle Heights! As part of our ongoing commitment to wildlife education and conservation, we’ve developed two fantastic hands-on experiences that will get young people directly involved in helping our local wildlife.
Bug Hotel Building Workshop π
There’s something magical about watching children’s faces light up when they discover the incredible world of beneficial insects! Our Bug Hotel Building Workshop is designed to do exactly that whilst teaching young people how to create vital habitats for our six-legged friends.
During this engaging session, participants will:
- Learn about the crucial role insects play in our ecosystem
- Discover which insects are beneficial for gardens and wildlife areas
- Get hands-on building their very own bug hotel using natural materials
- Understand how these mini habitats support pollination and pest control
- Take home their creation to install in their own outdoor spaces
It’s amazing how a simple bundle of bamboo canes, pine cones, and bark can become a five-star hotel for ladybirds, lacewings, and solitary bees! The children absolutely love the construction aspect, and parents are delighted that they’re taking home something practical that genuinely helps wildlife.
Seed Bomb Making Workshop π±
Who knew that making a mess could be so beneficial for the environment? Our Seed Bomb Making Workshop combines the joy of getting your hands dirty with the satisfaction of creating something that will bloom into beautiful wildflower meadows.
This workshop covers:
- The importance of native wildflowers for local wildlife
- How to identify plants that support pollinators
- The art of seed bomb construction using clay, compost, and wildflower seeds
- Where and when to deploy seed bombs for maximum impact
- The role of guerrilla gardening in habitat restoration
Watching young people roll up their sleeves and create these little balls of potential is wonderful. Each seed bomb contains dozens of native wildflower seeds that, when thrown into suitable areas, will grow into patches of colour that feed our bees, butterflies, and other pollinators.

Perfect for Youth Groups
Both workshops have been specifically designed with youth groups in mind. Whether you’re working with Scouts, Guides, or community organisations, these sessions can be tailored to different age ranges and group sizes. They’re particularly brilliant for environmental badges and conservation-focused programmes.
The workshops typically run for 60-90 minutes and can accommodate groups of 20 participants. We provide all materials, expert instruction from our education team, and of course, each young person takes home their creation as a lasting reminder of their visit.
More Than Just Fun
Whilst the children are having a brilliant time getting creative, they’re also learning valuable lessons about:
- The interconnectedness of ecosystems
- How small actions can have big environmental impacts
- Practical conservation techniques they can use at home
- The importance of native species in supporting local wildlife
These aren’t just craft activities β they’re genuine conservation tools that will continue benefiting wildlife long after the workshop ends.
