We’re absolutely thrilled to share some exciting news with you – Eagle Heights Wildlife Foundation has joined forces with London Golf Club in a groundbreaking conservation partnership that’s already making a real difference for our local wildlife!
What’s All the Fuss About?
Yesterday marked a special milestone as we installed specially designed nest boxes across London Golf Club’s beautiful grounds. These aren’t just any old bird boxes – they’re carefully crafted homes specifically designed for two of our most important local species: Kestrels and Barn Owls.
Both of these magnificent birds have been struggling in recent years. Habitat loss and the disappearance of suitable nesting sites have put real pressure on their populations, making it increasingly difficult for them to find safe places to raise their young.

Meet Our Feathered Friends
Kestrels are absolutely fascinating birds – you might have spotted them hovering above motorway verges or open fields, their wings beating rapidly as they scan the ground below for prey. They’re nature’s pest controllers, keeping rodent populations in check with remarkable efficiency. You might have seen our very own lovely little Kestrel Agnes on a recent visit to Eagle Heights?
Barn Owls, with their distinctive heart-shaped faces and ghostly white appearance, are equally important. These silent hunters patrol the countryside at dusk and dawn, their incredible hearing allowing them to locate prey even in complete darkness. Our Barn Owl Thelma is very chatty and loves to greet people on their way into the Foundation.
Why Golf Courses Make Perfect Partners
You might wonder why a golf course is the ideal location for wildlife conservation – and it’s a brilliant question! Golf courses offer vast expanses of managed grassland, perfect hunting grounds for both Kestrels and Barn Owls. The open spaces provide excellent visibility for hunting, whilst the surrounding trees and quieter areas offer ideal spots for our nest boxes.
London Golf Club’s commitment to environmental stewardship made them the perfect partner for this initiative. Their grounds team understands the importance of balancing sport with nature, creating an environment where both golfers and wildlife can thrive.

Looking Ahead to 2026
The nest boxes we’ve installed are now ready and waiting for the 2026 breeding season. Our team will be monitoring them closely. This information will help us understand how effective our conservation efforts are and guide future projects.
Just the Beginning
This partnership represents so much more than just nest boxes. It’s about two organisations coming together with a shared vision for environmental stewardship and wildlife conservation. The success of this project could serve as a model for similar partnerships across the region. Imagine if more golf courses, farms, and businesses joined forces with conservation organisations – the positive impact on our local wildlife could be tremendous!
How You Can Get Involved
Conservation isn’t just about what organisations do – it’s about all of us playing our part. Here at Eagle Heights, we’re passionate about sharing our knowledge and inspiring others to care about wildlife.
Why not visit us to learn more about our conservation work? You’ll meet some of our incredible residents, including our Kestrel and Barn Owl, and discover how you can support wildlife in your own garden and local area.
We also offer adoption programmes where you can directly support the care of our animals, helping us continue our vital conservation and education work.

A Bright Future for Local Wildlife
Partnerships like this give us real hope for the future. By working together, sharing resources, and combining our expertise, we can make a genuine difference for wildlife facing increasing pressures from habitat loss and environmental change.
The nest boxes installed at London Golf Club represent more than just homes for birds – they’re symbols of what’s possible when organisations commit to making a positive environmental impact.
